Rivesaltes, Château Mossé, VDN, 1931

£210.00 inc. VAT

A blend of 70% Grenache with the addition of Grenache Gris and Macabeu and it comes from a 250-litre barrel.

Nose: A powerful nose with dried honey, smoked walnut, rhubarb, fresh ginger.

Palate: Although medium-bodied, it begins on a potent note – quite nutty with sherry-like elements. However, it is levelled as you would expect.

Château Mossé sits in a traditional small village of 80 inhabitants, former stronghold of the Knights Templar in the 11th Century, nestled in the heart of the Aspres, Western Pyrenees.

They have 410 acres of clay-limestone and schist soils spread across arid sun-drenched hillsides, including 250 acres under vines officially classified for vintage wines : Carignan vines more than 100 years old on the slopes facing due South,  50 year-old Muscat, Grenache and Macabeu bathing in the Mediterranean sunshine, while the young Syrah vines stand high, proud of their fifteen years.
