I’ve had the pleasure of being at The Wright Wine Company since 1991, and took over ownership in 2012. However, the company has existed for much longer than my tenure, and full credit goes to the late Mr. Bob Wright and his wife Eileen, who established the business back in 1982.

Much has changed in this time, but we’ve retained many of the core principles set up by Bob and Eileen – the two main ones being to stock great products and offer excellent advice.

Based in The Old Smithy in Skipton, our building has had many uses over the years. Its double fronted doors hark back to the days when horse-drawn fire engines were in use and a plaque outside states that in 1764, 18th Century Methodist Leader, John Wesley, preached to the inhabitants of Skipton from nearby!

Our extensive product list offers “seven rooms of drinks heaven” – over 3,000 wines from around the globe, with rooms dedicated to both Bordeaux and Burgundy – two whisky rooms containing over 1,200 products –  a growing collection of 400+ gins, more than 100 rums, around 200 brandies (Cognac, Armagnac and Calvados) 150+ fortified wines (Sherry, Madeira, Marsala and Port) and, of course, plenty of champagne.

We hold a regular in shop wine tasting,12pm – 4pm, on the last Saturday of every month (excluding December) and between 5 & 6 evening Whisky tastings a year. In addition, we have plenty of spirits open to taste at any time.

We define ourselves as a specialist supplier of wine and spirits, ranging from the everyday to the premium, for both retail and the trade. We are proud to be chosen by several leading restaurants and michelin-starred hoteliers to help create award-winning wine lists and drinks menus, and enjoy a close working relationship, both personal and professional, with owners, sommeliers and managers alike.
