Description
Krug Vintage, Reims, 2011. Capturing the delightful contrast of a paradoxical climate, Krug 2011 is the expression of an unpredictable year split in two, with seasons reversed. A surprising Krug story allying finesse and power, it was nicknamed “Spirited Roundness” by the Tasting Committee.
Krug Vintage 2011 is a captivating and wonderfully fresh blend of Pinot Noir (46%), Chardonnay (37%) and Meunier (17%).
Did you know, in the city of Reims’ you can find its “crayères”. These are former chalk pits which were quarried for the city’s construction from around the 10th century. Basically, they are like underground cathedrals which are connected to each other by huge galleries.
And of course, a number of Champagne Houses had the good idea of using these areas to store their bottles – they can be upto 50m high and around 10-12°C with ambient humidity of 90-100%, providing the bottles with ideal ageing conditions throughout the year. These wine cellars have been inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List since 2015, testimony to how truly remarkable they are.
